- What was the key question of this topic?
What are Human Rights?
- In one paragraph write an answer to the question, thinking about what you have learned.
During the extent of this topic i have learned lots of new things. This ranged from discussing Human Rights in class where we had to define the meaning of certain rights followed by ordering them by their importance, to listening to the real stories that real refugees have gone through. Hearing the sadness in their voice makes it hard to sit and listen to. But it was an inspiring event because those people have gone through difficult times and they still didn't give up. I learned a lot through my biography. Researching information about the things that go on inside the problem and what people are doing to stop it.
- Why do you think this topic is important?
Because it shows how many people in this world don't have human rights or are unaware of them. Such as children who are forced to do hazardous tasks that harm or scar them. They are treated as tools rather then people and do a lot of work for little pay. Most of children who do that don't get to go to school and suffer large educational loses (E.g. Not being able to spell or read).
- Which learning opportunities did I most enjoy doing? Why?
I enjoyed doing the biography the most even though it was the most difficult learning opportunity. This is because I got to make a story of a child who is taken by the LRA and forced to fight. Using my imagination to decide what will happen to him and applying even more creativity to draw the sketches that I did for my group and myself. I did have times where I was stumped and didn't know what to write (Sometimes I wouldn't know what to write for 1 day) but I had help from my group members who discussed what they were doing and where they were stuck at too. Making the work challenging but still enjoyable for me.
- Which learning opportunities did I least enjoy doing? Why?
I didn't really enjoy the beginning of the topic because I was just learning about Human Rights and it was hard to order them into a list of importance because in my opinion, all human rights are important. Just some of them are needed a bit more then others. And when we had to make a poster it was hard because it was hard to generalize Freedom. And we didn't get a lot done.
- What skills have I used? Include 3 examples of work that show these skills.
- I included imagination in my sketches and for planning my biography.
- I used my Enquiry skills to plan and research information for my History of Human Rights and for my research sheet.
- I used my Information Processing skills to locate and collect useful information in which I used in most of my work such as my History of Human Rights presentation.
- How can the learning in this topic help me in the ‘real world’?
It has changed my view of freedom and how children are treated in parts of this world. It also has shown me that there are many ways to help other people who are in trouble. Every little piece matters to them, no matter how small. And by having even the simplest human right, people are classed as more important then those who are poor and sometimes don't have the same rights we do.
- What key idea do you think people should be aware of about this topic?
That there were many historical events throughout history that changed the course of Human Rights to shape the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that we have today. Also that there is a large number of people that don't have their human rights due to their status or because of what has happened to them. (E.g. Refugees, Child workers)

What targets could I set to help make progress in my learning?
Try to link them to your humanities learning and the key skills you want to develop. E.g. Try to use key terms in my answers, try to ask my own questions.
1. I could ask more questions that benefit my understanding about what i'm learning about. not spending minutes thinking about a question and ending up not asking it. Instead once I know what to say, I say it.
2. I could try doing a larger amount of work for each topic. Diving deeper into information and going beyond whats written. Being more specific when categorizing and when I planning what i'm going to need or do before i write or do a piece of work.
3. When working as a group, i should try being more open with my ideas and helping the team with their ideas. Even if they are people i don't normally talk to outside of class.
