1. What are your opinions of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)? Which do you think is the most important?
I think that the goals of the MDGs are understandably important because they combat a lot of the major problems like HIV/AIDS and Poverty that we have in our developing world. However, I think that the most important MDG is Maternal health because without it, women can’t or have an extremely hard time giving birth to the next generation. With extreme cases leading to the death of the unborn child and mother.
2.You will be investigating one of the MDGs. Which are you are going to choose? Why?
I Have chosen ‘Environmental Sustainability’ because I want to understand the development history and how much of their goal they have achieved. And if their goal can be accomplished by 2015.
3. Make sure you understand what your MDG is. Use the links and pages 51-55 geography@work3 to ensure you can answer these questions:
A) What is the main aim/aims of your MDG? What do they want to achieve by 2015?
Target 7.A is to involve sustainable development into country policies and programs, and to stop the loss of environmental resources such as trees and fossil fuels.
7.B aims to reduce the loss of biodiversity by making a significant reduction in the rate of loss and, by the year 2010:
7.1 Proportion of land area covered by forest
7.2 CO2 emissions, total, per capita and per $1 GDP (PPP)
7.3 Consumption of ozone-depleting substances
7.4 Proportion of fish stocks within safe biological limits
7.5 Proportion of total water resources used
7.6 Proportion of terrestrial and marine areas protected
7.7 Proportion of species threatened with extinction
7.C is aiming to halve the proportion of people that don’t have a sustainable access to safe drinking water and, or basic sanitation by the year 2015: 7.8 Proportion of population using an improved drinking water source
7.9 Proportion of population using an improved sanitation facility
The aim of 7.D is to achieved a significant improvement in the lives of around 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. 7.10 Proportion of urban population living in slums
B) Why is this goal so important? Why did the UN choose to focus on it?
This goal is important because its trying to control and reduce the impact we have on our environment so that it stays preserved for the generations to come.
C) How do they hope to achieve the goal?
They hope to achieve their goals by raising awareness of the subject and by making their goals clear by helping and hosting many events to improve how we use our items and how we can help preserve the environment.
D) What has been achieved already? Can you quote evidence of 2 or 3 example of projects and places?
This year, the UN hosted the premiere of ‘One Day on Earth’ on 2012’s Earth Day event. The goal was to raise awareness of the environment whilst supporting Earth Hour. While producing the film, more then 18,000 film makers participated, and over 3,000 hours worth of footage was generated in about 70 languages. Another event they did was to help governments improve their technology and education by adding policies and programs to country policies that increases the sustainable development of a country, which is important for conserving valuable resources such as clean water. This is bring carried out in 100’s of different countries. UNICEF is one of the organizations that has be working on this idea of conservation for nearly 40 years.

| My Poster |
Your Target Audience
My audience will be anyone. Meaning that anyone who is worried about the sustainability of our depleting resources would easily be able to understand the meaning behind the poster. And since it is mainly composed of pictures, it is also easy for a child to interpret.
What Do You Want To Say?
I want to show my research by using large pictures that represent how much devastation we are causing to our planet. And use as much words as I see fit. I want to make this visually striking because pictures are easier to understand compared to words.
The Medium
A poster.

" A waterfall starts but with one drop, and look what becomes of that."
What do you think the quote means?
I think it means that if someone is willing to try or do something, that people will start helping them with it. So it starts of as one and gradually builds.
Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Why?
I agree with the statement because if its a reason like slavery or people fighting in wars, that it is a reason worth fighting for and because of that more people would join in the effort to stop it.
How does this link with the topic 'A Fair World?'
Because changing situations so that they are fair, especially in other countries, requires a lot of effort and supporters to ensure that the change is done correctly, and in a way the allows the country to rebuild steadily.
The topic I have chosen are the MDG's (Millennium Development Goals) more specifically number 7 (Ensure Environmental Sustainability). I chose this because I want to know more about the history of the goal, why they have made it a goal and how have they advanced and developed since they first started.
